M5 East closed citybound due to car fire near Bexley Road

Sydney’s M5 East is closed citybound after a car burst into flames causing peak hour traffic chaos. 

Emergency services were called to the M5 near Bexley Road just after 7.20am on Monday following reports a car was on fire. 

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze as the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. 

Drivers have been advised to use the Bexley Road exit and follow the D5 diversion route.

Motorists can also exit at King Georges Road and follow the D5 diversion route through Stoney Creek Road, Bexley Road and Forest Road.

The incident has resulted in heavy traffic, with motorists urged to allow for extra travel time.
