Police have found a body on the M5 as officers warned of rush hour chaos this morning, with a 10-mile stretch of the motorway closed.

No details have yet been revealed about the dead person or how they came to be lying in the road between Brockworth and Quedgeley in Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire Police warned that the road would be closed for ‘some hours’ this morning and told motorists to expect long delays as a result.

A spokesman said the body was reported shortly before 4.10am today and had been found on the southbound carriageway around a mile north of Gloucester Services.

He added: ‘Police have closed both sides of the motorway while the body is recovered and a serious investigation takes place.

‘Diversions have been put in place but significant disruption is expected this morning and is likely to last for a number of hours while police continues to work at the scene and establish the circumstances.

‘Anyone who may have information but hasn’t spoken to police should call 101 and quote incident 34 of October 30.’
