Magda Szubanski shares sad news over Christmas holidays: ‘Have as much fun as you can possibly have without getting crook’

Magda Szubanski has revealed that she’s come down with Covid over the Christmas holidays. 

In a video shared to Twitter, the actress and comedian, 61, delivered a message for her fans and wished them well while explaining she’s unwell. 

‘Wishing you all a happy, heathy Christmas and holiday season. Don’t get this strain of Covid, it’s a real bastard, its not nice,’ she said in the clip.

‘Have as much fun as you can possibly have without getting crook,’ Magda added. 

Her fans were quick to send support, with one writing: ‘Oh @MagdaSzubanski I hope you feel better soon you poor love. Sending you big hugs and love’.

‘Back at you Magda! Hope you and your family get spoilt rotten,’ another said.

‘You’re right mate, this one’s a shocker, got a mate with this one and it’s bloody awful, get well soon and if you can have a Merry Christmas,’ someone else said. 

‘Merry Christmas to you! I hope you heal quickly and completely soon,’ one more chimed in.

She suffers from a litany of chronic health problems and has struggled with her weight for years.

The actress fought back tears while interviewing weight management expert Dr Lucy Burns, who spoke of how some people resort to binge-eating to cope with their emotional demons.

‘I think, really, that sense of sort of being able to forgive myself,’ she said tearfully.

‘Because I know people are like, ‘Why has she done that to herself?’ And I felt I had no choice. It was the only sane decision I could make, given the alternatives that I faced.’

‘And then you become this, like, f**king shame magnet,’ she added.

‘And it’s like you’re not supposed to fight back. You are not allowed to defend yourself. You’re supposed to just hang your head again in shame and say, ‘I’ve brought this on myself.” 

Magda is one of Australia’s most well-known comedians, and is best known for playing lovable loser Sharon Strzelecki on ABC sitcom Kath & Kim.
