She’s one of Australia’s funniest and most accomplished comedians.
So it’s no surprise that humour runs in Magda Szubanski’s family, with the 56-year-old revealing that her late mother Margaret was still funny up until her death in September.

The iconic comedian also revealed that she wants British A-lister Maggie Smith to play Margaret in a film.
‘If I ever did a film I would get [Maggie] to play my mum — there was that dry and hilarious humour,’ she said.
Magda added: ‘If you were to ask any of my famous comedy friends who know my mum, they would agree with me.’

The acclaimed actress announced her mother’s passing on social media last September.
Sharing a shot of herself holding hands with her Margaret, Magda captioned the emotional post: ‘RIP Margaret Szubański 5/11/1924 – 4/9/2017.’
The Kath and Kim star added a broken love heart to the post, and was inundated with messages from fans.

‘My condolences to you and yours,’ one follower wrote on Instagram.
Another wrote: ‘Hold on to the memories for they will see you through. Deepest sympathy for your loss.’
In August, Magda shared a black and white image of her mother online, saying she was ‘fading.’

‘This is mum two months ago,’ Magda captioned the image.
‘She has grown so much frailer since then. Her voice has faded to less than a whisper. Her thoughts often an incoherent jumble of past and present, real and imagined.’
