The parents of murdered water polo coach Lilie James are understood to be seeking legal advice over a plan to sue St Andrews’s Cathedral College for gross negligence and a breach in its duty of care to her as a member of staff.
Ms James, 21, was bashed to death by a colleague and ex-boyfriend in the gym bathroom of the Sydney CBD school on the night of October 25.
Her devastated parents Jamie and Peta James are now considering suing the school for compensation over the death of their daughter, the Daily Telegraph reports.
They will also seek answers over how Netherlands-born Paul Thijssen, 24, was able to kill their daughter without anyone seeing or hearing the attack.
It’s understood the James’ will also question why the elite school, where yearly fees exceed $40,000, doesn’t employ security guards to keep watch overnight.
‘There is a lot of anger there, and a lot of unanswered questions for Jamie and Peta,’ a close family friend said.
‘They, like the rest of us, want to know how this was able to happen inside a school of all places… They (the school) had a duty of care to protect Lilie as an employee.’

The parents of the water polo coach are also petitioning for increased security at the school to protect current and future students and teachers.
Thijssen and James were both employed at St Andrews school as sport coaches and had recently parted ways following a brief five-week relationship.
Ms James died after her former boyfriend followed her into the gym bathroom and bashed her to death with a hammer at about 7pm.
Her body wasn’t found until just before midnight when Thijssen contacted authorities to confess before driving to cliffs in the eastern suburbs.
His body was spotted by workers on a construction site at Vaucluse in water at the base of a cliffs near Diamond Bay Reserve about 8am the following day.
