A major UK airport has shared an update on the overhaul of its terminal, which will make passengers’ journeys even quicker.

Bosses at Manchester Airport have spent over £1 billion on extending and refurbishing Terminal 2, which was first opened in 1993.

With construction work nearing its end, the airport has officially opened its new Security East screening area.

It’s fitted with 10 scanners with the latest tech, meaning passengers will no longer need to remove their liquids from their luggage during the screening process.

Zone C, located in the departures area, is also now in operation, which will enhance passengers’ check-in and bag drop experiences.

Taking to social media, the airport’s official Facebook account shared an update on ongoing works on the airfield.

They explained: ‘Airbridges are currently being installed to all Fixed Links and Nodes (FLaNs) on Pier 2.

‘The Operational, Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) team completed two trials: one to test dual taxiway November Alpha and another to go-live with stand 47.

‘We also completed the final element of our new T2 dual-forecourt operation, meaning that passengers can drop off at the lower forecourt as well as the existing the upper forecourt, outside of T2.’

LEGO has signed up to the new-look terminal, as well as other retailers including Pandora, World Duty Free, Rituals and Wetherspoon.

Other airlines from Terminals 1 and 3 are expected to relocate to the new T2 once it’s fully opened.

But, while the improvements have been broadly welcomed by passengers, some have complained about the walking distance in Terminal 2.

One flyer said: ‘I flew from Terminal 2 a few weeks ago. Looks nice and fancy but so much walking from the departure lounge to the gates in the older terminal part.

‘Hopefully will be simpler and quicker when the refurbishment work is completed in T2.’
