A massive internet outage struck the city of Houston Friday afternoon, and one of the area’s biggest providers said they believe it was an intentional act of vandalism.

Comcast, which provides internet services under their Xfinity brand, said they determined that there had been ‘several back-to-back acts’ of vandalism which had disrupted their telecommunication lines.

Comcast officials also confirmed they’re working with law enforcement to find out who was responsible.

‘Telecommunication line vandalism has been a crime that we’ve worked with law enforcement agencies and the media to bring about public awareness,’ Comcast officials in Texas said in a statement Friday.

The telecom giant was able to restore internet services to ‘almost all’ of their residential and business customers hours after the outage.

They added that the repairs included work to fix damaged fiber lines in the Houston area.

Xfinity internet covers over 97 percent of Houston, a city with 2.3 million residents.
