Make up artist reveals how to set your face on summer days

Working in the peak of summer can be a struggle when before you’ve even made it into the office your make up has already sweated off.

Luckily for even the most rookie make up users, it isn’t as difficult as it may seem to keep your face from budging.

Melbourne make up artist, Heidi Hamoud, 22, has shared her tips on how to keep your make up lasting all day and all night – as well as the one technique she swears by to keep your products from sliding south.

Heidi explained that keeping your make up in place doesn’t come down to one fancy product, it is in fact all in the skin prep.

‘If you’ve got normal to dry skin, make sure you moisturise well,’ Heidi told FEMAIL.

‘If you’ve got oily or combination skin make sure you use a mattifying primer before applying any makeup.’

If you don’t moisturise properly for your skin type you run the risk of your make up not setting at all.

‘All skin types can benefit from using a light pressed powder to set make up and touch up as needed throughout the day,’ she continued.

When it comes to make up for the night time you should prep it the same way you would for during the day

When it comes to preparing your face for a night out, Heidi said it isn’t that much different from the day time, but you need a couple more products in your repertoire.

‘Prep the skin as you would during the day, skincare is key!,’ she explained.

‘But in the evening set with a translucent powder and use a makeup setting spray which also adds a nice dewy finish,’ she said.

However, when it comes to a night out, Heidi also recommends one simple technique to keep your make up from sliding off.

The make up artist suggests adding the ‘baking’ method to your make up routine.

‘Bake your makeup with a translucent powder and use a long-hold makeup setting spray to really lock it down so it doesn’t migrate down south,’ she said.

Baking is when you apply a decent amount of powder under your eyes, leave it a little while for your concealer to set and then dust it off.

Heidi takes a basic white sponge and wets it with fixing spray before dipping it into translucent powder to help keep it in place.

She then applies it directly underneath her eye area, being generous with the amount, and leaves it for four minutes.

Once it is set she takes a pressed powder and lightly dusts off the powder she used to bake with light flicking motions

‘I do this because while I’m removing the powder I’m also adding a little bit more coverage which will really give it that smooth, flawless look,’ she said.
