‘Making Real Madrid look like Real Salt Lake!’: Taty Castellanos scores FOUR vs Real Madrid

‘Making Real Madrid look like Real Salt Lake!’: MLS fans stunned as New York City FC striker Taty Castellanos scores FOUR goals against Champions League holders on loan at Girona

Taty Castellanos is flying the Major League Soccer flag in style in LaLiga, with the New York City FC loanee scoring four times against Real Madrid on Tuesday for Girona.

The 24-year-old led his side to a shock 4-2 victory in Spain and gave a major dent to Real’s slender title hopes in a game the team needed to win amid trailing leader Barcelona by 11 points.

But Castellanos had other ideas with his sensational four-goal blitz, which did not go unnoticed in America or indeed the rest of global soccer.

Castellanos is the first player to score four against Real in the 21st century and incredibly, he only touched the ball 15 times in 72 minutes in the game.

‘Taty Castellanos is making Real Madrid look like Real Salt Lake,’ said Yank Report, an American soccer account on Twitter.

The official Major League Soccer account tweeted: ‘That Taty Castellanos guy is pretty, pretty good.’

‘Not bad for someone who used to play half his matches on a baseball field,’ tweeted Men in Blazers, referring to how New York City play at Yankee Stadium, home of the New York Yankees.

Furthermore, Castellanos’s New York team are owned by the same company that owns Manchester City – who Real will play next in the Champions League.

Castellanos last played for New York last July – a 1-0 victory against Inter Miami – and left midway through the 2022 MLS season when he was top scorer in the league.

He also won the MLS Cup in the Big Apple.

Speaking after his departure was announced, Castellanos said: ‘I came to New York City four years ago and this experience has been everything I could have wanted.

‘It was here where I grew up and took my game to the next level. MLS is a strong and extremely competitive league with fantastic quality.

‘I’ve always said that the people at the club are incredible, it’s like a family. My teammates and the amazing staff that have spent so much time with me have helped me become the player I am today.

‘I was so proud to be able to win the Golden Boot last year and help the team bring home the Club’s first MLS Cup for our fans – it is a special moment in my life and one that will live with me forever.

‘Thank you to the best fans in the league for always supporting me and cheering me on every single game, you’ve given me so much belief over the years.’
