Malcolm Turnbull on why he won’t go on Kyle & Jackie O

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has never appeared on KIIS’s Kyle and Jackie O show.

And on Tuesday, during an interview with the station’s drivetime host Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes, revealed why he wouldn’t go on.

After Hughesy detailed how Kyle had threatened to punch him in the throat a few years ago the PM quipped: ‘You’re not selling this opportunity to me, in fact I think what you’re doing is making sure I don’t go on his show.’

Turnbull appeared on Hughesy and Kate to discuss the upcoming same-sex marriage postal survey when he was asked why he wouldn’t appear on Kyle’s show.

‘I’m sure I haven’t (offended him) and if I have, I’m sure he’ll get over it,’ the Prime Minister responded.

On Tuesday, during an interview on his show with Labor Leader Bill Shorten, Sandilands said Turnbull had refused to speak to the show on-air or even take his phone calls.

Kyle also said the Prime Minister snubbed his radio program in favour of ‘little rating shows.’

When Hughesy asked if he had plans to appear on the show in future Turnbull stuttered: ‘I’ll have a think about it… I should start with a phoner and warm up.’

However, the Prime Minister agreed that he would have a think about it.

Last week the Turnbull faced backlash online after sharing a photo of himself kissing his granddaughter, Alice, while holding a beer during Saturday’s Sydney Swans v Essendon Bombers AFL game.

He told Hughesy that he had was ‘completely surprised’ by the response to the image.

‘It seemed to me to be completely bizarre that anyone would have any objection to cuddling your granddaughter at the footy,’ he said.

‘I’d like to thank all of the people who showed support because events like that should be a family affair and it was great to be there.’ 

Turnbull also told Hughesy he would be voting ‘yes’ in the upcoming postal survey on same-sex marriage.
