A man has firebombed the front of the Port Lincoln police station in a frightening attack caught on video. 

The entrance of the Liverpool Street station was engulfed in flames shortly before 9pm on Thursday.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man who was seen walking away from the fire, through clouds of thick smoke.

South Australia Police said the man allegedly poured petrol on the footpath near the front doors of the station before setting fire to the petrol. 

Port Lincoln man Jason Toshach recorded the frightening incident on his mobile phone. 

Mr Toshach said he started recording when the man started behaving erratically.  

‘I was on my phone and wondered what the guy was doing,’ he told Adelaide Now.

‘He danced around making a scene as he poured the, what I assume was petrol. 

‘He lit it, gave a finger to the camera and walked off. he only walked a few feet then stood with his hands behind his back. Then they took him away.’

Fire crews extinguished the blaze before it spread to the police station building. 

The 19-year-old man was detained and arrested at the scene. 

He was charged with property damage. 

The teenager was refused bail to appear in the Port Lincoln Magistrates Court on Friday. 

No one was injured in the attack.
