Man, 25, proposes to his girlfriend in VIRTUAL REALITY

While some prefer traditional proposals, others like to think outside of the box and get a little creative with their big moment.

Melbourne carpenter Alex Lackovic, 25, opted for the latter and recently proposed to his girlfriend, Kelly Lynn Norman, 25, in virtual reality.

Alex spent a month with 15 game designers at Zero Latency in Melbourne to put the proposal together – each of them painstakingly recreating Kelly’s ‘happy place’ in graphic form.

‘If more people were like Kelly the world would be a better place and I knew I wanted to marry her as soon as I met her – she’s Kelly,’ Alex said in a video of the big day.

‘I had an idea to do a virtual reality proposal, I’m going to drop down on my virtual knee and hopefully she says “yes”.

‘When [the game] ended she was teleported to her favourite place in the world – the tree out the front of her grandparents’ place in South Africa. Every time she thinks about her happiest times she thinks of the time she spent out there with her friends and family.’

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Alex said he wanted to incorporate zombies into the proposal somehow as Kelly loved zombie games so heading off to play a virtual reality zombie game seemed like the perfect idea.

‘I emailed Zero Latency on the off chance that they’d be able to make this a reality and they told me they were excited to be involved,’ Alex said.

‘I vaguely remembered her telling me her favourite place was this big tree out the front of her grandparents’ house but to make sure, a few times in the past month I kind of quizzed her on where her favourite place in the world was.’

When it ended I was like “where is everyone going, wheres my gun and why am I holding flowers”?

Alex had Kelly’s uncle and parents photograph the entire area back in South Africa to ensure the graphics were as accurate and true to the real place as possible.

‘I was so blown away by how much detail there was – even the houses next door were perfect,’ Alex said.

When the big moment came, Kelly thought she, Alex and their friends were just going to play a virtual reality zombie game together.

But after the game ended, the screen turned blue and she and Alex were transported to her happy place.

‘I was so nervous. I came last of all the guys and I’m usually competitive but I w couldn’t concentrate in the game at all,’ Alex said.

Kelly said she had no idea anything was going on behind the scenes.

‘It’s so funny when I look at the video – I was in my own little happy world,’ she said.

When they took off their headsets, they were greeted by all their smiling faces.

‘I would 100 per cent recommend this to anyone, they can recreate any world you want,’ Alex said.

But when it comes to their wedding, they’re going to keep it a little more traditional.

'I think on the wedding day, reality trumps virtual reality,' Alex said, adding that the pair have known each other for four years but only been together officially for four months

The pair are both shocked at how big their video has gotten – but Alex doesn’t mind at all.

‘I had no idea it would go viral,  all I wanted was to make her feel special,’ Alex said.

‘I’m glad though, I think shes beautiful and I want her on every website.’
