At least one man was killed and five people injured after gunfire erupted at a Bronx train station.

The New York City Police Department launched an investigation after shots were fired on the uptown 4 train platform at the Mount Eden station around 4:45 pm.

The violence broke out after a fight began on a train and spilled onto the platform, police said.

A NYPD spokesperson told DailyMail.com that a 35-year-old male was killed.

Earlier reports said a teenage girl had died after being taken to a local hospital, which the spokesperson corrected.

Of the survivors, three were male and two were female, the spokesperson said.

The males were aged 15, 28 and 71, while the females were aged 14 and 29.

According to the New York City Fire Department, four people sustained serious injuries while one was left with minor injuries.

It is unclear if there were multiple shooters, but the suspect or suspects fled on foot, authorities said.

Northbound 4 trains are running on the express track from 149 Street-Grand Concourse to Burnside Avenue, with 4 trains bypassing Mount Eden Avenue in both directions.

The NYPD is urging the public to avoid the area of Jerome Avenue between Inwood Avenue and Townsend Avenue.

Footage from the Citizen app showed ambulances and emergency personnel gathered at the scene.

Officers were seen standing in the road beneath the subway tracks, redirecting traffic.

This is a developing story.
