Man, 39, accused of bashing a baby girl at a holiday home

Man, 39, is arrested after allegedly bashing a baby girl at a holiday park home – as she fights for her life in hospital with a ‘catastrophic brain injury’

  • The 39-year-old was extradited from Queensland and taken to Tweed Heads
  • He has been charged with neglect and causing grievous bodily harm 
  • A 24-year-old woman is also assisting police with their inquiries  

A man is in custody after allegedly beating a baby so severely she was left with a catastrophic brain injury.

The 39-year-old was extradited from Queensland and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station near the NSW border where he was charged with neglect, causing grievous bodily harm and intending to pervert the course of justice.

NSW detectives allege the man bashed a 23-month-old girl at a holiday park rental north east of Grafton on March 9.

The 39-year-old was extradited from Queensland and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station

Three days later, she was taken to Maclean District Hospital with life-threatening injuries, 9News reported.

She remains in a serious condition, and officers were informed she has suffered a catastrophic brain injury as a result of the attack.  

A 24-year-old woman was also taken into custody and is believed to be assisting police with their inquiries.

The man was refused bail and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.
