The body of a woman has been found at an address which a bomb disposal squad was called to on Christmas Day.

Yesterday, the Royal Logistic Corps attended the house on Tennyson Terrace in North Tyneside.

Northumbria Police have today said that following a search of the house officers found the body of a woman.

A 41-year-old man, believed to be known to the victim, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Tennyson Terrace had been completely cordoned off as a bomb disposal van and multiple police vehicles attended the scene.

Dramatic pictures showed soldiers dressed in camouflage alongside police officers on the residential street on Christmas Day.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police, yesterday, said: ‘Police are dealing with an incident in Tennyson Terrace North Shields which has resulted in minor disruption and local diversions being put in place.

‘We apologise for any delays this may cause.’ 

Officers say they have now launched a full investigation but are not in a position to name the deceased at this time.

Police remain in the local area and if residents have any concerns they can speak to officers face to face or by contacting the North Shields neighbourhood police team on 101.
