A man and a woman have been tied up and held captive during a home break-in.

Police said a group of people broke-in to to the property in the Ipswich suburb of Ripley, south-west of Brisbane between midnight and 3am on Friday night.

The intruders then tied up the man, 55, and the woman, 39, at the address on Huxam Street and taped their mouths shut before assaulting the male victim.

The pair were later released after being taken to another address in the same suburb, a Queensland Police spokesman said.

Police arrived after the woman called for help and the man was found with serious injuries.  

He was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital for further treatment. 

Crimes scenes have been established in both the suburbs of Raceview and Ripley. 

Investigations are ongoing.
