A 63-year-old man has been assaulted on a train because he asked three men to ‘tone down their language’.

Rod Pilling, from Queensland, was about to get off the train at Como, Perth, around 7:30pm on Tuesday when he was attacked from behind.

‘After a couple of minutes I said “Guys can you tone it down a bit? There’s ladies here.” Then a bit of argy-bargy started,’ he told 7 News.

‘I said to him, “Right I’m going down there and I’m going to push the button to get the guards.”‘

‘He didn’t like that very much! He didn’t take a lot to that,’ Mr Pilling added.

As the 63-year-old walked towards the doors to get off the train, one of the men followed him and repeatedly punched him in the head and face until he fell over.

But the part-time furniture remover, who received bruising to the face and ribs and has visibly black eyes, fought back.

‘I pulled both his legs out in front of him. I thought I have to get this bloke down and make him feel some pain.

Rod said the man was prevented from throwing another punch because he was held back by passenger guards at the station.

Transit Authority Officers detained the men at the Bull Creek station, but police have confirmed no-one has been charged over the incident.

Police are asking anyone who was on the train that saw the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
