Man accused of ‘murdering son’ acted as though was wrong as mother carried boy’s body out of house

The father accused of murdering his five-year-old son reportedly acted as though nothing was wrong when his mother carried his bloodied body out of the house.

The 36-year-old man, who cannot be identified, was charged with murdering his son as he lay in bed at their Carlingford home in Sydney’s north-west last week.

The slain child’s heroic grandmother, Joy, broke down in tears as she described the haunting moment she found her grandson covered in stab wounds in his bed.

‘As I got the baby, he (the accused) says so casually “I’ll open the door for you,” like I was carrying a bag of shopping and not his son,’ she told 7News.

‘I know he needed me but my grandson needed me more. I can’t be in two places at once, there’s only one me.’

The accused murderer’s shattered wife said she wanted her son to be remembered as the blissfully happy boy he was – giving media outlets permission to picture him.

In a tearful interview, the accused murderer’s wife and mother revealed how his mental health had deteriorated in the weeks leading up to the alleged attack.

The 36-year-old man, who has a long history of mental health issues, spent four weeks through April and May at Hornsby Hospital.

Two days before the alleged stabbing murder, he tried to voluntarily admit himself at Hornsby Community Health Centre but was turned away, Daily Telegraph reported.

The man’s partner, Thatsanee, and his mother claimed the 36-year-old was discharged three weeks ago with stronger medication which made him worse.

Hospital staff reportedly told Joy, who was the one who found her grandson covered in stab wounds in his bed, to take her son to the emergency department to be assessed.

The day after being turned away from Hornsby Hospital, the father was assessed by The Hills community health centre staff and it was agreed they would visit him the following day because he did not appear to be a risk to himself or others, according to the publication.

The grieving mother said she ‘still loved’ the boy’s father despite the charges he faces.

‘Daddy loved his son,’ Thatsanee told 7News.

The distraught mother, who is also a nurse, said she understood ‘too well how poorly funded mental health is’ and she was paying for it by ‘the death of (her) son’.

His wife hit out at the public health care system, questioning why her alleged requests for assistance dealing with his mental stability were rejected.

‘There was no bed for my partner … yet there’s money for space in the hospital morgue for a five-year-old’s body?’ she previously told Daily Telegraph.

A nurse working at Hornsby Hospital claimed the father tried voluntarily checking himself in on the same day four people were stabbed at a birthday party in Asquith.

The hospital was under ‘immense stress’ as they were reportedly dealing with a separate stabbing incident two days before the fatal attack on the five-year-old boy.

‘I can tell you that there were just no beds and no staff to care for him,’ a mental health nurse at the hospital told the Hornsby Advocate.

‘The whole hospital was a shambles, we had the Asquith stabbing incident with patients admitted, which resulted in an increased security presence and the mental health unit and the Emergency Department running over capacity.’

The man is expected to face court again on July 30.
