Man accused of raping an 11-year-old schoolgirl fears for his life in prison

A father-of-two accused of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl for five hours is reportedly sharing a cell in protective custody with a schizophrenic who has access to razor blades.

Brett David Hill – a 47-year-old, unemployed ‘nomad’ – was revealed as the accused child rapist after a suppression order was lifted on Wednesday in Newcastle Local Court.

Hill’s solicitor Rob Hussey argued against identifying his client, saying Mr Hill was in danger in prison and had already been threatened.

‘He has received a threat,’ Mr Hussey said.

Senior police prosecutor Sergeant Rebecca Witherspoon said the case was no longer circumstantial, and the public should be aware of the alleged perpetrator.

‘Publication of his name could lead to more people coming forward who have been offended against or groomed,’ she said.

Sergeant Witherspoon also revealed a ‘further complainant’ has already come forward.

Hill, a vagrant recently from Lambton Heights, near Newcastle, New South Wales, will face court again in August.

The former mine worker has been charged with kidnapping, six counts of aggravated sexual assault and four counts of aggravated indecent assault.

He is yet to enter a plea.

‘We will work this out my love so don’t stop thinking of us being together’.

The relationship failed – with Hill telling the woman it was ‘over’ in May.

The woman told Daily Mail Australia she was stunned to this week learn of the allegations from a friend of Hill’s.

‘His friends tell me about the story, I’m shocked,’ she said.

‘It’s very hard to hear, I never (met) him, we just know in Facebook and we promise to meet (in) June… but we broke up before that.’

Officers arrested Hill at a traffic stop four days after the alleged assault on the schoolgirl.

Police claimed he was a ‘nomad’ who was living in his car.

Detectives were ‘overwhelmed’ with information from the community, including dashcam footage and tip offs to CrimeStoppers.

Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec said: ‘Our investigators scoured through all of that information to identify that person and make the arrest.

‘This brave little girl is certainly a hero, and the courage that she has displayed is heroism.

‘It is remarkable, the strength of this girl, supported by her friends and family, supported by counsellors, but she has stood up.

‘She’s worked with us, her family and friends have worked with us and she’ll get on with her life.’

Newcastle Police Superintendent Brent Greentree said the crime had ‘sent shivers down the spine of every Novacastrian’.

Hill did not apply for bail on Wednesday and the matter was adjourned until August 15.
