The man accused of stealing Frances McDormand’s Oscar pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Terry Bryant, 47, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court charged with felony grand theft of property.
He allegedly swiped McDormand’s best actress Academy Award as she celebrated at the Governors Ball on Sunday night.
Bryant then posted his own video kissing the Oscar on Sunday night, but was caught leaving the ballroom with the statuette in hand as he posed for cameras.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said he faces up to three years in jail if convicted.
However, Judge Deborah S Brazil ruled Bryant could be released without posting bail because he does not pose a threat to the community.

Bryant was also captured on video leaving the ball while brandishing the award to photographers, one of whom confronted him after not recognizing him as a winner.
It’s been revealed that Bryant has a long criminal history. Oregon jailhouse records show that, between 1999 and 2002, he was arrested at least seven times.
Bryant’s past includes arrests for theft, assault and criminal mischief, according to Inside Edition.
All of the arrests were logged by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, which covers Portland and some of the surrounding area.
