A man has been charged after a pistol and ammunition was found hidden at a childcare centre in Sydney’s southwest four years ago.
Officers using a firearm-detection dog found the .445 calibre Webley Mk VI revolver and 58 rounds of ammunition in the garden bed of the centre near Bankstown in September 2013.
The 30-year-old, already in custody at a jail at Nowra on NSW’s south coast, was on Wednesday arrested for possessing an unauthorised pistol.

New South Wales detectives discovered the weapon after they raided the centre as part of an investigation into illegal possession and supply of firearms across Sydney, ABC news reports.
The gun was located in a garden bed outside the centre, in a position where it would have been unlikely for any children to find.
However, detective Inspector Wayne Walpole said it could have been easily attained by a passerby.

‘That would make the firearm readily accessible to someone so that they could access it easily,’ he said after it was found.
‘And perhaps hide it easily if the need arose.’
The man was arrested by detectives from Strike Force Glengarvin on Wednesday.
A search of the centre has been conducted to ensure there are no further weapons being hidden
He is set to face charges of possessing an unauthorised pistol at Blacktown Local Court on September 27.
Meanwhile, he remains in police custody.
Police believe the firearm was positioned in the garden bed at the centre without the knowledge of staff or the owner.
A search of the centre has been conducted to ensure there are no further weapons being hidden.
