Man arrested after ‘trying to abduct children’ in Sydney

A man has been arrested and charged after approaching and allegedly attempting to abduct three different children in one afternoon.

The accused man, 41, was allegedly seen watching a small child while at the busy Paddy’s Markets in Sydney on Sunday afternoon.

He then made towards a second child, aged 18 months, before the parents intervened and picked up the toddler, police said.

On his third attempt the man was allegedly seen trying to usher a third child, aged four, out onto the street.

Witnesses noticed the man try to lure the toddler away from the marketplace before stepping in and calling security to detain him.

Police from Sydney’s local area command were called to the scene and arrested the man on the spot.

Police from Sydney’s local area command were called to the scene and arrested the man on the spot

He was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with offensive conduct and breach bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court on Monday. 

Police are now appealing for the parent of the third child approached to come forward to assist in the investigation.
