A man has been charged after allegedly leaving an infant with critical injuries in remote northwest Queensland.
Police allege the child, who was only 18-months-old, presented to Mount Isa Hospital with head injuries on January 30.
The shocking injuries sparked a months-long investigation by local police and specialists from the Child Trauma Unit.
After almost a year, police arrested a 34-year-old man on December 9 in relation to the alleged incident.
The man has since been charged with one count of domestic violence-related grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded into custody to appear before Mount Isa Magistrates Court on February 14, 2024.
Acting OIC at Mount Isa Child Protection and Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Nathaniel Carlton welcomed the result.
He said the arrest was a “great showcase” of the detectives commitment to investigate any incident in the local community.
“This result is only achieved by a fantastic collaborative effort between Mount Isa and specialist officers in such tragic circumstances,” he said.
“We will continue to do whatever it takes to investigate and hold those accountable that place children in the community in harm’s way.”
