Man charged over NSW hammer attack

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a relative after he allegedly attacked the victim with a hammer at a house in NSW’s Lake Macquarie region.

Police allege the 54-year-old used a hammer to smash through a glass door and then to assault another man at Mount Hutton on Monday night.

The 59-year-old victim suffered suspected skull fractures and was taken to John Hunter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The alleged offender was arrested and later charged with attempted murder and aggravated break and enter.

He was refused bail to appear at Toronto Local Court on Tuesday.
