A man has climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, bringing early morning traffic to a standstill and threatening to send the peak-hour rush into chaos. 

Police rescue crews are currently trying to help the man down after he scaled a metal infrastructure on the bridge at around 4.30am on Wednesday. 

Authorities have warned commuters the bridge could fully shut down if the situation escalates.
