A man has been killed after being hit by the light rail in Sydney’s CBD.

The man was hit on Devonshire Street, in Surry Hills, at about 1.15pm on Thursday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and discovered the man, believed to be in his 40s, trapped under a light rail carriage. 

Paramedics did their best to treat the man but he died at the scene. 

He is yet to be formally identified.

‘Police established a crime scene and an investigation into the cause of the incident has commenced,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

‘A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.’
