A man has died and police have arrested another following an alleged assault at a popular city park.
Emergency services were called to Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne’s CBD just before 7am on Monday, with reports of a physical altercation between two men.
One injured man was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
Police arrested the second man who remains behind bars.
The pair are yet to be formally identified.

Homicide Squad detectives want to speak to members of the public who may have witnessed the altercation
A crime scene has been established at Fitzroy Gardens.
‘At this time police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and both men are yet to be identified,’ Victoria Police said in a statement.
