A father allegedly drilled a hole in the front door of their western Sydney home to cover up his daughter accidentally shooting his young son using a homemade weapon, police claim.
Police allege the man, 41, rushed his son to hospital after being shot in the back, before returning to his Lurnea home to stage a drive-by shooting.
Ballistic testing will determine whether the father, who was known to police after discovering information he may be manufacturing guns, used a drill to stage the shooting.

He rushed the five-year-old to hospital, before leaving him to return to their house because he left the front door open and dropped his wallet on the lawn.
The father claims a member of his family recently won the lottery and it was a targetted attack. Police allege the 41-year-old instead attempted to cover up the incident by drilling a small hole in the door.

After searching the home, police found a small piece of metal which they allege came from a crudely-constructed .22 calibre weapon.

The father has been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm and ammunition without a licence, and hindering a police investigation. He is currently out on bail.
His 37-year-old partner has been charged with the same offences.
