Connecticut fire officials say a man is in critical condition after he fell from a roof and became impaled on a barbecue grill rotisserie stand.

David Mendes, 34, was working on the roof of Casa Do Benfica Soccer and Social Club in Danbury, and fell about 10ft on a metal post that was inside of a rotisserie style barbecue pit.

The post, which was an inch thick at points, had to be sawed off and a foot long portion remained inside the left part of his chest so paramedics could safely transport him to the hospital.
