A dead man wearing just a pair of socks has been found washed up on a beach.

The body was discovered by a dog-walker on Brown’s Bay in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, at about 8.20am today.

Northumbria Police are carrying out enquiries into the incident and a force spokesperson said the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Officers have been asking residents with houses facing the bay if they have CCTV footage.
