A motorist has revealed how he feared for his life when targeted in a shocking road rage attack on a busy motorway.

Saul Harris was on his morning commute to work on Auckland’s Upper Harbour motorway when he moved to the middle lane to overtake a slow motorist.

The slow motorist retaliated by allegedly ramming into the back of his car three times.

Mr Harris said that marked the beginning of the terrifying attack.

Saul Harris claimed his car was rammed into three times before he was choked and assaulted on Auckland’s Upper Harbour motorway (pictured)

Mr Harris told Stuff the motorist then pulled over to the side of the motorway and signalled to him to do the same.

‘That’s when he reached through the window, grabbed me by the throat and then tried choking me,’ Mr Harris said.

‘When he released his grip, he gave me a palm up bash in the head couple of times and then started to walk away.’

But his attacker was not finished.

Mr Harris said the motorist returned to slam the car door on his leg and tried to rip the door off his car.

Mr Harris insisted he did nothing to antagonise the driver.

‘I just can’t believe someone would react the way he reacted … you don’t have to turn it into a dangerous situation which he did,’ he said.

It was the first time Mr Harris has experienced road rage in the four years he has driven to and from work on the Upper Harbour motorway.

Police confirmed they were investigating the incident.
