Man in his 30s dies after falling off a cliff while taking photos near a whale watching platform

A man has plunged to his death while reportedly taking photos of whales from a viewing platform. 

Police said they believe the man aged in his 30s may have fell at about 1.20pm Saturday at Kurnell after losing his footing.  

Emergency crews were called to Cape Solander cliffs after witnesses reported a man falling into the water, according to Sydney Morning Herald.

A man has plunged to his death while reportedly taking photos of whales from a viewing platform in Kurnell, south of Sydney 

An extensive search was carried out with jet skis and a helicopter before the body of a male was located. 

‘Initial inquiries suggest the incident was misadventure and there are no suspicious circumstances,’ NSW Police said in a statement. 

The identity of the man has not yet been confirmed and police are currently investigating details surrounding the devastating event.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.
