Slain: Kendrick Hughes, 30, was killed in a Mississippi shooting by a man wearing a ‘Jason’ mask from the horror film Friday the 13th
A man wearing a Jason Voorhees mask from the horror classic Friday the 13th shot three people in Mississippi on Sunday, killing one and injuring two others.
Kendrick Hughes, 30, was fatally shot at the Pine Ridge Apartments on Rebelwood Drive in Jackson at around 2pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. One of them underwent surgery on Sunday, and the condition of the other was not immediately known.
Sgt. Derrick Jordan, of the Jackson Police Department, said the suspect came from behind one of the apartment buildings with a handgun and shot the three men, who were standing together.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
‘I don’t want to speculate on why he was wearing the mask, but ultimately it’s just to hide his identity,’ Jordan said, adding that the motive is unknown, reported the station WLBT.

Investigators spent Sunday afternoon going door to door interviewing neighbors and looking for clues to help them identify the shooter.
The suspect has been described as a black male who was last seen wearing all black and the Jason mask.
As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made.
According to his Facebook page, Hughes was an aspiring local rapper who went by the stage name ‘Kirby.’
Friends of the victim have been paying tribute to Hughes on social media and sharing photos and videos of the slain man, including one clip showing the victim performing a rap called ‘Death before Dishonor.’
