A man has been charged after a 63-year-old was allegedly stabbed to death with neighbours recalling the moment they head screams coming from a property. 

Police were called to a unit on Mine Street in the Ipswich suburb of Redbank, in south-east Queensland, at about 10.25pm on Saturday.

Emergency services the 63-year-old man with several serious stab wounds and attempted to treat him before he died shortly afterwards.

A 28-year-old man from Boronia Heights who was found on the premises and was taken into custody.

He was later charged with one count each of murder, threatening violence and possess dangerous drugs (methamphetamine).

Police will allege three people, the two men and a woman, were inside a unit when an altercation broke out.

A four-year-old child was also reportedly inside the unit at the time. 

Detective Inspector David Briese described the crime scene as ‘bloody. 

Detective Briese said the woman and child were not harmed.

The police said the two men were ‘known to each other’.

Neighbour Charlie Ridgeway Jr said he heard a disturbance before police arrived at the unit.

‘Pretty much what we heard last night was arguments in the flats, we heard yelling,’ he told the Courier Mail.

‘We heard a big scream right after the yelling, like a grown man scream. About 20 minutes later, 20 cop cars were here.’

Mr Ridgeway said the area had changed for the worse since a block of flats were built two years ago.

The accused man will appear before the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
