Man is arrested on suspicion of trying to abduct young boy from his mother at hospital’s emergency department

A man has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to abduct two children from Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital.

Officers were called to the emergency department on Sunday, February 24, following reports that someone tried to take a child, a West Midlands Police spokesman said.

According to an eyewitness – who did not want to be named – the man tried to take a little boy from a mother, before sneaking into the secure child unit and taking a child off a father.

Birmingham Live reported he was stopped by a member of the public and was arrested by officers, according to the witness.

Full details surrounding the incident are not clear at this point but, according to a West Midlands Police, the man is in custody.

A spokesman for the force called the incident ‘traumatic’ and has launched an urgent investigation.

He said: ‘E-unit, Wolverhampton, have arrested a male on suspicion of child abduction from Newcross Hospital. A traumatic incident for child and mother.

 ‘As reassurance, these incidents are very rare and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.’
