Man is arrested over violent robbery of a heavily pregnant woman at a Sydney train station

A man has been arrested over the shocking alleged robbery of a heavily pregnant woman on a Sydney train.

Jiwon Jeong, 23, who was three days away from her due date, was sitting on a train at Canley Vale station, in Sydney’s west, on July 9 when a man confronted her, grabbed her bag and jumped back to the platform, police claim.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at a Bonnyrigg home on Monday over the reported assault and taken to a medical facility for a mental health assessment.

Ms Jeong said she tripped when she tried to chase after the man and fell onto her stomach, according to 9News.

‘I’m pregnant, so I couldn’t really chase him, I just fell down myself on the floor, on my belly,’ she said.

The expecting mother revealed that she received scratches on her legs and her knees during the terrifying ordeal.

‘I couldn’t breathe well, and I was very hurt, in pain.

‘It’s disgusting and it’s terrible, I can’t believe it just happened to me.’

A witness tried to chase down the offender while his wife followed in the car.
