They had leafleted residents explaining why they were there and had been due to wrap up tomorrow.

Shortly before 10.30am today a male, who did not live in the block, was buzzed in through the ground floor security door and made his way to the eighth floor.

Some of the students were sat in a hire van containing the equipment in the car park while others, including an actress, were on the eighth floor.

A student, who did not wish to be identified, said: ‘The female actor was on the balcony when this bloke appeared on the balcony across from her.

‘She smiled at him and he smiled back and then he just threw himself over.’

Melissa Johnson, 28, who lives on the seventh floor, said: ‘The poor guy does not live in this block.

‘The students put leaflets through our doors informing us that they were filming in the block and we knew it was about suicide.

‘They have been coming and going with their cameras and equipment.’
