A man killed after being hit by two separate trains on the outskirts of Melbourne has still not been identified – nine years after his death.
The man, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, was standing in front of a stationary train at Pakenham Railway Station on August 14, 2008, when the train began to move and struck him down.
While the first driver didn’t notice the man, the driver of a second train which appeared 10 minutes later did – though it was too late to avoid hitting him again.
He was found with no identification, and police fingerprint checks gave no information.

Despite a substantial campaign to identify the man, police were never able to find any information and therefore have been unable to notify his family.
Chilling CCTV footage taken just moments before he stepped onto the train tracks shows the man board the stationary train and put his head in his hands.
He then takes a few steps backwards and appears to place his head in his hands once more before the video cuts out.
Detective Senior Constable Mick Van Der Heyden from the Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit has issued a fresh plea to anyone who knows the man to come forward and help identify him.
‘This man would have had a family; he would have been someone’s son, he could have been a brother, a father, an uncle or a friend,’ he said in a statement on Tuesday.
The man had boarded a stationary train at Pakenham Station before getting off and moving to the tracks outside just after 9pm on August 14, 2008
‘I have no doubt that his family would dearly love to know what has happened to their loved one, and we would like to identify this man and bring some closure for the family’
The man is of Indian appearance, about 170cm tall and has dark hair and a short beard.
He was found wearing a sports club jacket from a New South Wales Rugby Club with a logo stating ‘Valley Statesman Rugby League’.
The jacket’s original owner is believed to have discarded it in either Pakenham or nearby Doncaster months before the unidentified man’s death.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
