Man proposes to girlfriend during Crossfit workout

When it comes to a wedding proposal, it usually takes place in a romantic, candlelit setting for two.

But one Crossfit-loving beau has stepped away from tradition choosing instead to pop the question to his girlfriend while the pair were in the middle of a class.

In a gesture that was three weeks in the making, Ravi Araujo, 24, got down on one knee to propose to his partner of three years Paloma Diehl, 26.

The pair were engaged at the Washdyke CrossFit gym in New Zealand last week.

The video proposal, shared by on CrossFit Timaru’s Facebook page, has reached over a 1000 views with the gym writing it was a ‘joy to be involved in such an emotional occasion’.

The video shows Mr Araújo going down on bended knee in front of a class after giving a speech in front of other classmates declaring Ms Diehl is ‘the one’.

‘Here we are surrounded by these awesome people away from home and I realised that home is next to you,’ he said on the video.

Clearly surprised by the heartfelt gesture, Ms Diehl spontaneously burst into tears, and naturally said yes.

The couple, who moved to New Zealand a year ago are now happily engaged, but there was a moment where it looked like the proposal may not have gone to plan.

Speaking to Stuff.co.nz, Mr Araújo said he had planned to propose to Ms Diehl during 5.30pm Crossfit class last Friday but the whole thing was nearly derailed by a physio appointment his girlfriend had scheduled for the same time.

‘She told me on the Tuesday that we needed to change to a 6.30pm CrossFit class as she had physio at 5.30pm. She really wanted to go to physio, Mr Araujo said.

‘I had to call the physio and ask him to tell Paloma he was busy at that time now.’

Added to that there was also a drama over the ring – the pair work on a dairy farm and Mr Araújo’s two-hour ‘lunch break’ to drive to the closest town to pick up the ring raised suspicion.

‘When I got home she was upset because I took a two-hour lunch break, he said.

The ring also got left at home inside Mr Araújo’s jacket – fortunately he said it wasn’t discovered by his bride to be when she brought it to him.
