Man ‘punched girlfriend for eating last cookie’

‘Cookie monster’: Richard Hessic, 31, of Florida, has been charged with domestic battery for allegedly punching his girlfriend in the face after she ate his last cookie

A butcher punched his girlfriend in the face when he discovered she ate the last chocolate chip cookie, police said.

Richard Hessic, 31, of Port St Lucie, Florida was arrested last Thursday night following the snack-related attack on his live-in girlfriend.

When questioned by police, the 6-foot-4 butcher admitted that he became enraged when he discovered that the last of his favorite chocolate chip cookies was gone.

Hessic confronted his girlfriend of three years, a 34-year-old nurse, he got the feeling that she was ‘blowing him off’, according to an incident report obtained by The Smoking Gun.

The victim said she tried to make light of the cookie conundrum and joked with Hessic about ‘reviewing the surveillance cameras to see who ate the cookie’.

But the illicitly devoured sweet treat was no laughing matter for Hessic.

The girlfriend later told police she did not want to argue over ‘something so petty’ and offered to buy more cookies as a way to make it up to Hessic.

Incensed by the woman’s unwillingness to take his cookie grievance seriously, Hessic allegedly followed his girlfriend into the bathroom, ripped down the shower curtain while she was bathing and punched her on the left side of her face.

The responding officer observed in his report that while talking to the victim, he did not notice any swelling or bruising on her face.

Hessic was booked into the St Lucie County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.

He was later released and placed under house arrest with GPS monitoring. A judge has barred the Hessic from contacting his girlfriend.

The 31-year-old is due back in court for his arraignment on December 28.

Records show that the man was previously arrested on charges of battery, fleeing and eluding, child abuse and driving with a suspended license.
