A driver has relived the earth-shattering moment he woke from a coma to learn his pregnant girlfriend and their unborn daughter died in a horror car crash that he miraculously survived.

Maddie Morgan, 21, died when the Nissan Skyline she was travelling in was torn in half in a horror head-on-crash east of Perth on May 15

Jack Bryant, 23, was placed into an induced coma after his Nissan Skyline was struck by a Ford Falcon at an intersection east of Perth on May 15.

When he woke a day-and-a-half later at the Royal Perth Hospital, he was told the devastating news his girlfriend Maddie Morgan, 21, and their unborn daughter, who they planned to call Lucy, had not survive the crash.

‘The first thing I do remember was seeing two of the police women that informed me about what happened,’ he told The West Australian.

‘You don’t believe it at all. All the cliché things you can think of. It must be a dream, you are trying to wake yourself up.

‘It’s just the biggest empty feeling you can imagine.’

Three months later, the car detailer is sharing his story in the hope it will encourage drivers to stay safe on roads.

He urged motorists to do the right thing and avoid taking risks, warning they are not worth the potential consequences.

Mr Bryant’s Skyline split in two when it was hit by the Falcon at the corner of the Great Eastern Highway and Homestead Road in Mahogany Creek at about 7.45pm.

Miss Morgan, who was the front seat passenger, was rushed to Midland Hospital where baby Lucy was delivered. Both died a short time later.

Mr Bryant was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious head injuries, a ruptured spleen, half a dozen broken ribs, collapsed lungs and a chip in his spine. He was discharged six days later.

The 23-year-old Ford driver and his 19-year-old passenger were also rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A third female teenage passenger was miraculously unharmed in the accident.

Police will allege the driver was speeding above the 80km/h limit at the time of the crash.
