A video shows the surprising moment a man comes across an iguana swimming in the middle of the ocean miles off the coast of Key West, Florida.

During his offshore boating trip, he spots the lizard swimming desperately. He calls out: ‘You lost or what?’

He tells the iguana ‘hop on if you can’ and the iguana tries to clamber on board.

The man then offers the lizard a paddle for help.

The animal manages to get onto the boat, and the man says: ‘that’s some rough business, what are you doing?’

He then tells the iguana it has to move to a more secure place because he is about to turn on the boat.

When they got close to land, the lizard hopped off the boat and swam to shore and relaxed

The reptile keeps sitting, and the man asks: ‘Or do you want a breather and just keep swimming to Cuba?’

The video then shows the iguana perched on top of a cooler preparing for the trip back to Florida.

The pair then heads back to mainland. When they’re close to shore, he asks the reptile: ‘Any of this look familiar to ya?’

The lizard responds by jumping off the boat and swimming to land.

It is unknown how the iguana ended up so far away from the coast.
