A man has been left confused after finding a roll of undeveloped film in his letterbox of images taken several decades ago.

Queensland resident Ron Sebly found the 35mm of film in the mailbox of his workshop late last year.

‘You scratch your head and think, what on earth is this?’ he told The Chronicle.

Mr Selby was working in his building in Drayton in Toowoomba’s south-west in December when he was checking his mail.

Unable to make out what was on the film, he decided to take it in to a camerastore.

‘I had to have it developed,’ he said.

‘They could have been photos of a wedding or a birthday party, anything that people could treasure.’

The mystery only deepened after Mr Selby received the images back, finding a series of family photos including children on holidays and pictures of beloved family pets.

One picture shows two young girls posing for a picture in a car park, possibly during a trip.

Another shows a dog happily playing in a backyard in front of a Victorian-style clothesline and a vintage car in the background.

These characteristics suggest the photo is at least 20 years old, and Mr Selby believes they could be much older given the model of the car in one of the images.

Another photo shows the now-defunct Gatton Squash Courts, which were closed decades ago.

Neighbours did not help Mr Selby find answers, with none recognising the people in the film.

He is hoping to find the rightful owners of the photos and solve the mystery as to how he ended up with them.
