John Robert Charlton, 39, received 27 years and nine months in prison Friday for killing and dismembering a woman he met online last spring
A Washington man was sentenced Friday for brutally murdering a mother-of-three he met on a dating site in a drunken rage.
John Robert Charlton, 39, received a maximum sentence of 27 years and nine months in prison for killing and dismembering nurse Ingrid Lyne, 40, and leaving her remains in a random trash can in early April 2016.
In court, a judge revealed she would have given Charlton a harsher sentence had she been able under state guidelines.
‘Nothing can soften the cruelty with which you carried out this murder,’ Superior Court Judge Julie Spector told Charlton, CBS affiliate, KIRO, reports.
A horrified Seattle local informed police at the time after he found the victim’s body left in a bin.
Charlton and Lyne met on an online dating site and had only been seeing eachother for a few weeks prior to her death, the killer told police during questioning.

He claimed he hung out with her at a baseball game and later a bar the evening before her unusual disappearance, according to KIRO.
Charlton also alleged he was homeless and that Lyne drove him to a destination in Seattle later that night – when he passed out on a sidewalk after heavily drinking.
But he failed to leave out the truth and an important part of his faulty story – which was when he took a saw to Lyne at her Renton home and slaughtered her.
On April 10, investigators discovered a ’15-inch pruning saw near the bathtub, and an empty box of plastic garbage bags identical to the ones containing Lyne’s body parts,’ according to the news station.

Charlton cried in court Friday as he was sentenced, and told the victim’s family he was ‘truly sorry’ for the ‘pain’ he caused them.
Ex-husband and father to the victim’s children, Phil Lyne, said in court Charlton deserved much worse than what he was given.
‘You’ve taken our daughters’ compassionate, caring mother who I respected very much. You have taken someone who was not yours to take,’ Lyne said in the court statement.
