A man shot dead by police during a stand-off at a South Australian motel was holding a 21-year-old woman hostage with a shotgun, the police say.
The 24-year-old man was shot following a siege at Tollgate Motel in Adelaide on Saturday night, with police alleging he locked the woman inside a room and threatened her with a shotgun.
‘Shots were heard from the room and a short time later the man was shot by police. The man was treated at the scene but unfortunately he died from his injuries,’ Deputy Commissioner Linda Williams said in Adelaide on Sunday.

Assistant Commissioner Noel Bamford said police had been at the motel ‘conducting inquiries’ when they spotted the man in one of the rooms with a weapon.
Mr Bamford said guests were evacuated from the hotel after police fatally shot the man.
‘My understanding is that the guests were moved away from the rooms (and) taken to a safe place while the negotiations were going on,’ Mr Bamford said.
