Man smashes poker machines in Sydney with a meat cleaver

This is the moment a 61-year-old takes a hammer and a meat cleaver to poker machines in front of stunned hotel patrons.

The man was caught on film as he entered the busy Dooley’s Catholic Club at Lidcombe in Sydney’s west on Sunday and started smashing the machines at random.

When police were called, they tracked the man down, chasing him through suburban streets to arrest him. 

The seized a hammer and meat cleaver from a nearby yard. 

He was taken to Auburn Police Station where he assisted the police with their inquiries.

The 61-year-old was charged with destroying or damaging property and being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offence, Nine News reported. 

He was released on bail due to appear before court later this week.

Dooley’s Catholic Club chief executive David Mantle released a statement about the incident on Sunday, saying he was glad no one was injured.

‘It was very fortunate no one was hurt. We are assisting police with the investigation,’ Mr Mantle said.  

The police said no one was injured but there was extensive damage to a number of machines. 

Any witnesses were encouraged to contact the police.
