Man steals exotic $500 parrot from Brooklyn pet shop

  • A man walked into a Williamsburg, New York, pet store on Tuesday and stole a blue Quaker parrot out of the bird cages 
  • Video shows him grab a paper towel and walk over to the cages before snatching the helpless bird
  • The animal is said to be sold at around $500

Police are on the hunt for a man caught on video snatching am exotic parrot out of a Brooklyn pet store. 

Surveillance cameras captured the man walking into Petland Discounts on Graham Avenue in Williamsburg, New York, on Tuesday and heading towards the bird cages.

The intruder then breaks into one of the cages, reaches inside and grabs a blue Quaker parrot from its perch.

The man is then seen putting the bird in his pocket with a paper towel. 

NYPD says the man his in his twenties or thirties. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt underneath a dark jacket and jeans.  

The animal is said to be sold at around $500. 

Quaker parakeets are also known as monk parrots and are native to South America. 

Large wild colonies are prominent from Southern Florida to the Northeast and Midwest. 

They can get to about 12 inches in growth.  The man was not a former employee from the store.
