Man swerved Ford Mondeo into a cyclist

Dashcam footage has captured the horrifying moment a driver deliberately ploughed into a cyclist following an altercation on the road. 

Ashley Merrett was seen breaking heavily near the cyclist who then gestured at him on North Station Road in Colchester.

The 30-year-old swerved into the man and knocked him to the ground before fleeing the scene on May 13 last year.

Footage from a car travelling behind Merrett’s Ford Mondeo shows him swerving into the cycling lane and hitting the man in his 30s. 

The cyclist is thrown from his bike, over the bonnet of Merrett’s car and onto the busy road. 

Merrett then drives off at speed.

Merrett admitted dangerous driving, causing actual bodily harm and common assault, at Ipswich Crown Court and will be sentenced in February

He was taken to hospital for treatment but was not seriously injured, according to police.

Police said Merrett was arrested later that day.

Merrett, from West Bergholt in Essex, admitted dangerous driving, causing actual bodily harm and common assault, at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday.

He will be sentenced in February next year.
