Man takes mother on a spin in his 500bhp classic car

‘Slow down!’ Cancer mom’s reactions are priceless as son takes her on a high-speed spin in his souped-up Seventies sports car

  • A California mother who is battling cancer went for a spin in her son’s classic car
  • The son, known only as Zach, has highly modified his 45-year-old Datsun 260Z
  • He upgraded the 139bhp engine to one which produces an epic 500 bhp

This is the heartwarming moment a Californian takes his mother, who has stage 4 pancreatic cancer out for a spin in his highly modified car.

The man, known only as Zach, has upgraded his 1974 Datsun 260z, even fitting it with racing seats and harnesses.

During the video, Zach’s mother is pushed back into her seat and shrieks loudly as he unleashes the power through his car’s rear wheels.

Speaking after the spin in Fallbrook California on June 10, 2019, she said: ‘My son, Zach, made this video with his GoPro.

‘He has a 500 HP 1974 Datsun 260z and he took me for a ride in it. The video is my reaction to the ride in his fast Datsun.

‘I have stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I just finished my 27th chemo treatment. I don’t like fast cars at all, but I agreed to take a ride in my son’s car because this has been a project that he has been working on for a long time.’

During the video, Zach’s mother asks him: ‘Why is it so loud?’

‘Because it’s a race car,’ he replied.

His mother responded: ‘They used to drive these when I was at high school.

He replied: ‘This is a little bit different to the ones that you had in high school.

She said: ‘It’s so loud, I heard you coming.’

Commenting on the car’s acceleration, she asked: ‘What are you trying to do, put it to the floor.’

Her son replied: ‘No, I can’t put it to the floor as it would just spin the tires.’

When out on an open section of road, Zach accelerates strongly in second gear and you can hear the turbos spool up just before his mother starts to scream as she is pushed back in her seat.

An unimpressed mother responded: ‘Don’t do that to me.’

Innocently, Zach replies: ‘Why was that too fast? It was just a little bit.’

‘Don’t try to scare me.’

Throughout the four-minute video, the mother looks concerned each time her son red-lines the motor before changing up.

Zach added: ‘This is definitely the fastest car you have ever been in in your entire life, guaranteed.’

However, the main alterations were made under the bonnet. When the car left Datsun Shatai plant in Hiratsuka, its 2.6-litre straight six motor produced a miserly 139bhp as it had to adhere to new emissions controls in the United States brought about by the 1970s energy crisis.

In order to make the car more interesting to drive, Zach increased the power produced by the Japanese classic to 500bhp.
