Man to walk along the bottom of Sydney Harbour

Ever wanted to know what lies beneath one of the world’s most famous harbours?

Rod Moore will find out when he gets an underwater view of Sydney Harbour on January 31.

Three months after walking three kilometres under Lake Macquarie from Marks Point to Belmont, Mr Moore will take on a five kilometre underwater walk from the western side of Rose Bay to Rushcutters Bay.

Rod Moore is ready for his next underwater walk,  Sydney Harbour. The five kilometre journey will be from Rose Bay to Rushcutters Bay

The walk will be pass some of Australia’s most exclusive real estate on Point Piper and Darling Point, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s home.

‘From the technical side and ease, it’s not going to be as easy as the last one,’ Mr Moore,’ he told the Newcastle Herald.

‘It’s not going to be a walk in the park. I’d love to walk across the harbour, but it goes down to 30, 40 metres, and that’s too much.’

The harbour adventure will raise awareness for Kiwanis International, which empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children through local service projects and fundraising

On the surface will be his support crew in a boat who will communicate with Mr Moore via a whiteboard passed up and down on a rope.

Mr Moore’s biggest fear is that ‘a couple of bull sharks [may] come and pay me a visit’.

‘I know there’s a healthy population down there,’ he told the Herald.

Mr Moore raised $8000  for a Balinese orphanage on his most recent underwater walk of Lake Macquarie.

He did the same underwater journey 30 years earlier, as a 25-year-old.
